I’ve got three words to describe this SoDo wedding – elegant, fun and more elegance.
Maya and Scott transformed Canvas Event Space in Seattle, Washington into their spectacular backdrop for the night.
Dubreezy Entertainment was on hand to provide the wedding DJ services for the first time at this SoDo wedding venue.
Since the room at Canvas Event Space is long and skinny, we brought in extra sound equipment to accommodate all guests for the ceremony, cocktail hour and the reception.
The couple brought in their own specialty lighting company which meant no lighting was needed from us.
SoDo Wedding Ceremony
Guests started to arrive a little earlier than planned but we were already set up and began playing wedding prelude music. The couple provided a list of songs from artists like Al Green, Sabrina Claudio and Frank Ocean for us to play.
The officiant took his place and it was time for the ceremony to begin.
The wedding party came down the aisle to the instrumental version of “Cigarettes and Cush” by Stormzy featuring Kehlani and the bride’s processional song was “My Song” by H.E.R.
The ceremony lasted about 20 minutes after an opening prayer by one of the family members of the bride.
This couple ended their ceremony with the old tradition of jumping the broom which signifies sweeping away their old lives and embarking on a new life together as husband and wife.
The recessional song chosen was “Party” by Beyoncé featuring J. Cole (Remix).
After the ceremony ended, guests were invited into the other half of the room for cocktail hour and hors-d’oeuvres provided by Ravishing Radish Catering as the opposite half got flipped for the reception. We went with a mix of 90s and modern r&b music as requested by the couple.
SoDo Wedding Reception
Once the room was ready, the drapes were opened up for guests to come back into the reception area. The room was so elegant with uplighting, candles and all white pipe and drape.
Guests got seated and it was time for the grand entrance of the wedding party and bride and groom.
The grand entrance song chosen for everyone was “Rake It Up” by Yo Gotti featuring Nicki Minaj and Mike WiLL Made-It.
Once the wedding party, bride and groom got seated, there was a quick welcome speech from the bride’s father and then we went right into the dinner buffet.
We continued with a background mix of 90s and modern r&b music for dinner and then moved to toast.
Toasts were given by four members of the wedding party and then it was cake cutting, first dance, bride/father dance, groom/mother dance, bouquet toss and garter toss back to back to back.

One thing to note is that there was a special performance from members of the wedding party to introduce their first dance.
After all these traditions it was just a straight-up dance party until the sparkler send-off at the end.
A lot of the couples friends and family were from Atlanta so we played a lot of Migos, Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti, Plies and Future.
Ty Dolla $ign, E-40, YG, Cameo, Drake and 112 were a few of the artists on the request list.
