We got the call to DJ a wedding reception at the Tacoma Golf and Country Club for Travis and Elisa who also attended another wedding that Dubreezy Entertainment DJ’d for. Since the venue was in Lakewood, WA which is very close to our offices, we arrived early for setup along with the friendly staff that was also setting up.
Cocktail hour was downstairs and the wedding reception dinner and dancing was upstairs which called for two separate DJ sound systems to avoid the absence of music as guests came upstairs.
Wedding at Tacoma Golf and Country Club
As guests started to arrive for cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres, they were treated to a nice music mix of indie rock and classic soul specifically chosen by the bride and groom. Artists like Christine and the Queens, Lord Huron, Al Green and Lupe Fiasco were among them.
Here is a photo I took during cocktail hour with one of my old clients and a couple of her friends who attended her wedding too.
Once the bride and groom arrived, we did a grand entrance introducing them and the entire wedding party to “Express Yourself” by Charles Wright.
The bride and groom had a chance to socialize and mingle with their friends and family for a moment then everyone was invited upstairs for dinner.

We continued with the same mix of music from cocktail hour as guests came upstairs and during dinner. To minimize crowding at the buffet line, guests were dismissed by table number to the buffet after the bride and groom got us started.
Toast was next leading off with the Father of the Bride and ending with a toast from each one of the groomsmen.
Cake cutting was next and the song chosen for that was “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne. We then went on to first dance and family dances.
After the formal dances, the first song for open dancing was sung by the bride’s cousin which was “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan. After that it was some general dancing for a few songs from the 90’s hip hop genre and current top 40. Guests were also given glow bracelets.
There were a few more formalities with some traditional Greek dancing followed by a special arabic drum performance from the bride’s aunt.
We immediately went in to bouquet and garter toss and continued with the general dance music mix. The last song of the night chosen by the bride and groom was John Mayer – “XO” and then they did a sparkler send off to wrap up the night.
