The Best, Worst, and Weirdest Things I’ve Seen While DJing

Providing wedding DJ services for hundreds of weddings, people often ask what’s the best, worst or weirdest thing I’ve ever seen at a wedding. Well, there are a ton of each. Some stick out in my mind more than others. The three I’ll explain are ones that stick out on my mind the most.

Unfortunately I don’t have audio, video or photo for any of these so I will try my best to describe them in detail.

Starting With “The Best” While DJing

One of the best things I’ve ever seen at a wedding was this kid, who was the nephew of the bride, was giving a toast. He had to have been around 6 years old.

He’s grabs the mic and starts reading from a piece of paper. I don’t remember his exact words but it was something along the lines of this:

  • __________ (Brides name) I just want to say how beautiful you look today and how __________ (Grooms name) is a lucky man to have you and how much of an amazing aunt you are and…

And then he stops and stares at the paper and says something like:

  • Wait, what does this next line say? I can’t read your handwriting… (talking to the Bride)

And the entire room erupted into laughter.

Great moment!! Great Toast!!

Second, “The Worst” While DJing

One of the worst things I’ve ever seen at a wedding comes from the catering department.

I’m in the middle of dismissing tables to the buffet and all of a sudden the caterers run out of food. Guests have to return to their seats as someone from the catering staff heads out the KFC and brings back buckets of fried chicken.

Places them at the buffet table in the place where the original catered food was and the guests that didn’t eat ended up getting to eat something.

The moral of this story is that emergency situations can arise and as long as there is a back up plan, you’re good. All guests did end up getting to eat but still was one of the worst things I ever saw.

Lastly, “The Weirdest” While DJing

Last but not least, the weirdest thing I ever saw at wedding reception was while I was DJing. The night had been going great, lots and lots of alcohol consumed by the guests but later in the evening, all of the groomsmen decided to strip down to their boxer shorts and dance with all the ladies.

There were even some lap dances given out by these same groomsmen.
