Old School R&B Music Late 80s Early 90s

9 Old School R&B DJ Songs You Forgot About

Are you planning to hire an old school r&b DJ for your next special event? Before turning in your music request list, take a look at some of these song ideas from the late 80’s to early 90’s I was reminded of after completing a project that involved transferring my cassette tapes to mp3 files.

There were so many great songs but I will just share some of the ones that stuck out. See if you remember any of these old school r&b DJ songs from the late 80’s to early 90’s.

Old School R&B DJ Music

1. Bell Biv DeVoe – “B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)” (1990)

That’s right, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivens and Ronnie DeVoe made up this r&b group. This one can be missed since Poison is the most popular old school r&b song from this group.

2. Cherrelle – “Affair” (1988)

This one has 80’s written all over it. Unless you were on some type of dance team or drill team, this one is sure to have slipped your mind.

3. En Vogue – “You Don’t Have To Worry” (1990)

Of course En Vogue will never be forgotten but classic r&b music like this song can be overlooked since “Hold On” was the first single ever released by this group. “Lies” and this one were released shortly after.

4. Color Me Bad – “I Wanna Sex You Up” (1991)

This song will never be forgotten either but the New Jack City movie soundtrack version can be since everyone seems to DJ with the album version. This one is the one that starts with “Hey beautiful lady, I need you tonight.”

 5. Voices – “Yeah, Yeah Yeah!” (1992)

I had to look up the artist for this song. See if you can spot a couple of big stars today in this video.

6. Karyn White – “Secret Rendezvous” (1988)

It’s easy to forget about this one with her super hit “Superwoman.”

7. The Boys – “Dial My Heart” (1991)

If you are familiar with music from this era, you are guaranteed to have had the chorus from this song stuck in your head at some time in your life.

8. Whitney Houston – “My Name Is Not Susan” (1991)

Another talented artist never to be forgotten but this song can.

9. Today – “Him Or Me” (1989)

This group had lost of hits that you probably forgot about but here’s one of them.
